Old timer told me to ditch the anti-two block and I almost paid for it

Last month a retired operator named Jerry at the yard told me I was relying too much on the anti-two block and should learn to feel the load by eye. I actually listened to him for a few days and damn near slammed the ball into the boom on a job at a warehouse in Newark. Took a chunk out of the sheave guard and the boss was not happy. Who else has gotten bad advice from some old hand that almost cost them?
