Finally got my swing radius dialed in after 6 months of guessing
I've been running a Liebherr LTM 1050 for about 8 months now, and I kept overcompensating on tight picks near the substation. My foreman called me out last Tuesday after I knocked a guy wire loose. So I spent a whole weekend practicing with a 5 gallon bucket and a string line to mark exactly where my boom tip stops. Turns out I was adding an extra 2 feet every time out of nervousness. Now I can set a load within 6 inches of the obstacle on my blind side. Anyone else use weird drills to break bad habits?

The tension in that guy wire is no joke, I've seen a loose one take out a scaffold. Practicing with a bucket and string is smart, but have you tried marking your crane's outrigger pads with chalk lines for a visual reference? Those visual cues can override the nervous muscle memory faster than just guessing where your boom tip stops.

Used a laser pointer taped to my boom once to map out my swing path on a warehouse ceiling.
