The client who came back after a year with hair that looked like straw

She got a balayage from me that was super healthy, but she came in last month and her ends were fried and breaking off. I asked what changed and she said she started using a cheap clarifying shampoo every single day for a full year because she liked the 'squeaky clean' feel. Her hair went from a solid 8 out of 10 to a 2 in terms of condition, just from that one product switch. It took two deep conditioning treatments and a trim just to get it back to a manageable state. Has anyone else had a client completely undo your good work with a bad at-home routine?

It's crazy how one wrong product can wreck everything. I had a client with beautiful color that just went dull and brassy in a few months. Turns out she was washing her hair with a bar of hand soap she bought in bulk. She said it lathered really well and was cheap. The mineral buildup was unreal. I had to do a serious clarifying treatment just to start fixing it.

Ever see someone use dish soap for dandruff?

Honestly, that hand soap story is wild. I used to think any shampoo with sulfates was probably fine as long as it got the job done, but seeing that kind of mineral buildup and color damage has totally changed my mind. The whole "squeaky clean" feeling really does strip everything out, from natural oils to the hair's actual structure. It's crazy how something as simple as a cheap bar soap can undo months of careful work.
