Shoutout to the coworker who fixed my sectioning technique

I kept struggling with balayage on thick hair and couldn't figure out why my ends looked blotchy. One of the senior stylists at my salon watched me for like 2 minutes and pointed out I was taking subsections that were too wide. She said keep each section to half an inch max and use clips to hold them apart. I tried it on 3 clients this week and my coverage came out even for the first time. Anyone else have a random tip that clicked after someone showed you exactly what you were doing wrong?

That 1-inch rule (or half inch in your case) was my lightbulb moment too when I finally fixed my blending.
