That geocities satellite loop page I bookmarked in 2003 still updates every hour

I found a link to an old NOAA weather satellite composite that some guy named Ron in Ohio coded into a Geocities page back when dialup was king. For years I figured it would 404 or just show a broken image, but I checked it last Tuesday and that thing refreshes like clockwork with real data. The whole page is just blue text on a gray background with a single image, but it works perfectly on my phone in 2024. Has anyone else stumbled on a relic like this that somehow keeps running with zero maintenance?

Those "still works" pages are more annoying than charming. I'd rather have a modern weather app that loads faster than digging up some guy's ancient pet project from the internet attic.

My friend had an old weather site from 2003 that he swore by, just a plain text page with no graphics. I actually tried it once when my phone was dead and I needed to know if I should grab an umbrella before walking to work. @the_sarah you might be surprised how fast those old bare bones pages load compared to the bloated apps nowadays. I ended up bookmarking it for backup because it loads even on a sketchy wifi connection.
