That $30 laser level changed how I do drop ceilings, no joke
I was setting a grid in an office remodel outside Cleveland and my old bubble level was killing me, had to keep squatting and rechecking every tee. Tried the string line trick for the 4th time, still ended up with a saggy corner that took an hour to fix. Then I borrowed my buddy's self leveling laser, the kind that projects a full line, and it cut my layout time from like 45 minutes to 10. I bought one on the spot, a cheap rotary unit, and now I mark everything off a single beam instead of dancing around with a stick. The red lines show up fine even in bright daylight which surprised me, though you need a receiver for outdoor work. Anyone else find one tool that just made them feel stupid for not buying it earlier? What's your version of this for framing or conduit?
Man, I heard a guy on a podcast say the same thing about laser levels for tile work, that once he started using one he couldn't believe he ever did it the old way. He said the lines don't lie, so you stop second guessing yourself and just work. That part makes sense to me, because half the time I waste isn't the marking, it's the standing back and squinting to see if something is off. My brother in law does electrical and keeps telling me a fish tape and a good pair of Klein's changed his whole week, so maybe every trade has that one cheap thing. For me it was a magnetic torpedo level that sticks right to the pipe, sounds small but it saved me a ton of yelling across the room. Your mileage may vary but I bet the laser pays for itself by the second ceiling you do.
