Picked the suspiciously cheap contractor over the well-reviewed one. Regretted it hard.
Needed my garage roof replaced. Had two quotes: one from a big company for $4,200 and some local guy for $2,800. Went with the cheap guy thinking I saved $1,400. His crew showed up at 11am, left by 3pm, and the shingles are already popping up after one rainstorm. Now I'm looking at paying the other company to fix his mess. Shoulda known better. Anyone else get burned by going with the lowest bid on house stuff?

My cheap gutters are currently held together with prayer and duct tape.

The thing nobody's talking about is that duct tape actually degrades in UV light after a few weeks. So you're basically in a race against the sun now. If you want to hold out until next spring, consider those zip ties that come in long strips for gardening stuff. They handle the rain way better than tape.
