Dropped $800 on a home air purifier during wildfire season last summer

Thing ran nonstop for three months and I swear my lungs felt better than my neighbors who just left windows cracked. Has anyone else dropped serious cash on something that actually worked or are we all just guessing?

...and honestly that's the best $800 you could've spent, I did the same thing back in 2020 when the smoke was so bad you could taste it in the air. I went with one of those big Honeywell units that's basically the size of a mini fridge and it's been running almost constantly ever since. My allergies are way less of a problem now and I don't wake up with that gross scratchy throat in the morning anymore. It's one of those things where you don't realize how much garbage you're breathing until you actually filter it out.

Right, @baker.phoenix, you nailed it. I grabbed a similarly chunky unit after the 2020 fires, one of those Winix ones with the carbon filter. Thing's been a workhorse ever since. My old place had this weird basement smell that I thought was just... part of living there? Nope. First week running the air purifier and that musty scent was completely gone. I also stopped getting those random nosebleeds I'd have in the winter when the heat was on. It's wild how much crud builds up on the pre-filter in just a month, you see it and you're like... yep, that was my lungs before.
