TIL that old IT guy was right about static mats
A senior tech at my shop in Austin swore by static mats. I thought they were overkill. Built a new rig on my carpet last month. Fried the motherboard on boot. $180 mistake. Has anyone else had a 'told you so' moment with ESD gear?

Man, that stings. The old IT dude was definitely right, static is a silent killer. Learned that one the hard way myself a few years back with a graphics card. Carpet is basically a static electricity generator, it's wild how much damage it can do.

Yeah carpet is brutal. I fried a motherboard once just shuffling my feet on the way to the desk. Now I always touch the metal case before I touch anything else inside the PC. Did you try any kind of warranty after your GPU died?
