Spent 4 hours on a dead PC that just needed a CMOS reset
Customer brought in a machine that wouldn't post, no beeps, nothing. I swapped PSUs, RAM, even the CPU before I finally cleared the CMOS with a jumper. Has anyone else had a BIOS corruption present like a total hardware failure?

My last CMOS issue was on an old HP Pavilion from 2013. The thing would power on but the screen stayed black, no POST beeps, nothing. I swapped the GPU and even the RAM before I thought to pull the battery. Let it sit for about 5 minutes and it booted right up. Do you think the BIOS chip on these older boards is just more prone to corruption over time, or is it something else like a weak battery causing the issue?

Yeah, that exact thing happened to me last month. A totally dead board, no signs of life at all. I was ready to call it a lost cause. Popped the battery out for a full minute, put it back in, and it fired right up like nothing was wrong. It's crazy how a corrupted BIOS can mimic a complete hardware failure. Saves you from ordering a whole new motherboard, at least.
