Just realized thermal paste on a 2019 Dell actually holds up, and I was wasting money
I used to redo paste on every machine that came across my bench, just assumed it was dried out after a couple years. Then I started logging temps on a batch of 12 OptiPlex 3070s from a dental office in Tulsa, and the originals ran within 3C of the fresh paste on a 30 minute stress test. Now I only repaste if the numbers actually look bad, which saved me about 45 minutes per unit.

That "within 3C" number tracks with what a buddy of mine saw at his shop, he had a stack of old Latitudes and swore the paste was shot on all of them. He tested half with stock paste and half repasted, and the temp gap was small enough that he stopped doing it by default too. Turns out most of those units just needed the dust blown out of the heatsink, not a full teardown.
