Grabbed a cheap continuity tester over a multimeter for once
Needed to check a bunch of ribbon cables fast on a fleet of Optiplex 3020s and my Fluke was too bulky. Grabbed a $12 pocket tester off Amazon - worked perfectly for the job and saved me 30 mins per batch of 5 machines. Anybody else switch to a more basic tool for a specific task?

A $12 pocket tester? No way, that actually worked?

Bet your bottom dollar it worked, for about three whole weeks until the plastic casing cracked and the wires started poking out like a porcupine. Honestly though, for twelve bucks you can't really expect it to last through the apocalypse or anything. I've had a few of those cheap ones and they're hit or miss, mostly miss when you need them most. You get what you pay for, right? Just don't rely on it if you're wiring up your house or something important.
