Warning: That 'quick release' clamp I got from the harbor freight in Norfolk let go on my dive basket at 40 feet yesterday
It was holding my spare air tank and the whole rig dropped toward the bottom before I grabbed the lanyard in time, has anyone else had these fail on them underwater?

My buddy Dave had the exact same thing happen off the VA Beach pier last summer, except his was holding a catch bag full of scallops (probably 30 pounds or so). The clamp just let go like it was butter and that bag sank straight down into a big rock pile at 45 feet. He was pissed because he spent all morning filling that bag and had to sit there watching it disappear. He swore off those cheapo harbor freight clamps for good after that, said it wasn't worth saving ten bucks to lose your gear like that.

Did you try doubling up the clamps or using a locking carabiner instead? That's what I started doing after losing a stringer of fish to a failed clamp in about the same depth.
