That safety guy I yelled at last month? He was right about my drysuit valve placement

I had a blowup with our site safety officer, Mike, back in February on a bridge repair job near Norfolk. He kept nagging me about how I had my inflation valve mounted too close to my neck. Told me it could freeze up or get bumped loose during a bell dive. I brushed him off, figured he was just being a stickler. Yesterday, I caught my valve against a crossbeam during a current shift, and it took me 45 seconds of fumbling blind to find it and vent my suit. Has anyone else had a safety complaint that turned out to be dead on?

Lingering in cold water trying to find a vent is no joke, how long did it take before you felt any serious heat loss?

Call me crazy but 45 seconds doesn't sound that bad.
