That moment your air hose snags on a piling at 40 feet

I was inspecting a pier in Norfolk last month and my air hose caught on a barnacle-covered piling. Had to cut the hose and surface on bailout gas before I got pulled into the current. Has anyone else had to ditch gear in a hurry like that?

Had to cut the hose and surface on bailout gas" - that's basically the diving equivalent of saying you had to bail out of your car while it was still rolling. I mean, at least you got a good story out of it, right? Idk, maybe just me but barnacle-covered pilings sound like the universe's way of telling you to get a desk job.
