My neighbor said a pour-over tastes better than espresso and I can't stop thinking about it

He told me at 7am by my mailbox that espresso hides the bean's character behind pressure and heat, while a slow pour-over lets every note come through like a conversation. I've been team espresso for 10 years straight. Which side do you land on when it comes to tasting the actual bean?

Heard a friend say the exact same thing at a party and then spent 20 minutes fumbling with a paper filter.

Honestly, "like a conversation" is killing me. That's the most pretentious thing I've heard about coffee in a while, and I say that as someone who's been team espresso for like 8 years. Ngl, pour-over does let more flavors come through, but espresso has that punch and body that just hits different. Tbh, your neighbor sounds like one of those guys who acts like his single-origin beans are a personality trait.
