Had to pick between a French press and an Aeropress last month

I was standing in the kitchen aisle at Target for like 20 minutes trying to decide. The French press was $25 and the Aeropress was $35, so I grabbed the cheaper one. First cup came out super muddy and I ended up chewing on grounds for three days straight. Finally caved and bought the Aeropress after watching a video from some guy in Portland who showed how to do a 90 second brew. Now I get a clean cup every time and it takes less cleanup too. Has anyone else had that moment where you bought the wrong gear first?

Watched my roommate try to use a French press for matcha once, ended up with green sludge all over the counter and she just gave up and ordered a latte from Starbucks. I still remember her standing there holding the plunger like it personally offended her. Now we both stick to our Aeropresses and pretend that whole week never happened.

Oh man I totally used to be a French press purist, thought it was the only way to make coffee properly and looked down on Aeropress people. But after watching my own roommate attempt to make chai in one and basically paint the kitchen ceiling with cardamom foam I had to rethink everything. You're right, some tools just aren't meant for certain jobs and it's okay to admit that. The Aeropress is so forgiving and clean compared to that messy plunger situation. Honestly your story kinda sealed it for me, I finally bought an Aeropress last month and haven't touched the French press since.
