Spent 45 minutes last Tuesday hunting a bug that was just a missing comma in my CSS
I stared at line 212 in my stylesheet until my eyes crossed, then my roommate leaned over and asked why I had a semicolon where a comma should be. Anyone else lose a whole evening to one tiny typo?
Who hasn't done this though? I once spent a solid hour and a half going back and forth between my browser and my code, convinced my flexbox was broken, and the whole time it was one curly brace sitting in the wrong spot. The worst part is the moment right before you find it when you're like, maybe I'll just start over, maybe CSS just doesn't work today. Then your roommate or coworker glances at it for two seconds and solves your whole life. I swear the typo becomes invisible once you've stared at it long enough, like your brain just fills in what should be there instead of what's actually there. Glad it was just a comma and not something that made you rewrite the whole sheet.
How long do you let it go before you finally ask someone? I've got a rule now where if I'm stuck more than 20 minutes I just yell across the apartment, because the solo stare never works. Last week I had a margin issue and was fully convinced the browser was caching wrong, cleared it like five times, and it turned out I'd typed the class name with a capital letter in the HTML. My buddy spotted it in about three seconds and didn't even say anything mean, which was somehow worse. Do you go straight to the coworker or do you have to suffer for a while first out of pride?
