Rant: That engineer who told me my speeds were wrong
I still think about this one interaction from about 2 years ago at a shop in Cleveland. This young engineer fresh out of school came over to my machine and said I was running the spindle too slow for the part we were making. He pulled out this fancy chart from some textbook and pointed at the numbers. I told him look, I've been cutting this 4140 steel for 8 years and I know what works. He just shrugged and walked away like I was the idiot. Three days later his way ate up a $400 carbide end mill and left a nasty gouge in the part. He never said a word after that but I saw him watching me from across the floor. Has anyone else dealt with a know-it-all who never ran a machine in their life?

Read something about that exact kind of carbide eating an end mill.
