Had a weird moment with a part print last Thursday that made me think

I was running a batch of 304 stainless brackets on the Haas, the print called for a 0.005" chamfer on all sharp edges. I was deburring by hand after, like always, and it hit me. I've been adding that chamfer for years because the print says so, but I never asked what it's for. I called the engineer, and he said it's just to prevent cuts during assembly, no real tolerance need. Now I'm looking at all the callouts differently. Anyone else ever dig into the 'why' behind a simple spec and get a surprise?

Ugh tell me about it, feels like people just want everything to be safe and clean all the time. Like sometimes you gotta just DO the thing and deal with the mess later. My hands are a wreck from working on my car last weekend and I'm weirdly proud of it. Shows you actually put in the work, you know?
