When a summer blackout in Phoenix finally pushed me off the fence about solar
After three days without power during a 115 degree heat wave back in 2020, I finally put panels on my roof in Mesa. Has anyone else had a specific weather event that made them change their energy habits?

Oh man, that's a fair point actually. But here's what I'd ask back - was your grid up the whole time during that heat wave, or did you just have one of those streets that didn't get hit as hard? Because I've seen whole neighborhoods in Phoenix lose power for days while the next block over was fine. Seems like the real question is whether solar plus battery backup is just good insurance for when the grid does what the grid does in extreme weather, even if it's not a daily thing.

Three days without AC in Mesa sounds miserable, but isn't that more about the grid failing than solar being a necessity? Plenty of people in Phoenix survived that heat wave without panels and just mopped up sweat. Is going solar really the only answer to a rare power outage?
