That old lady in Highland Park who wanted me to sweep her chimney every month for 10 years

I had this client named Mrs. Gable in Highland Park who insisted I come every month even though she only used her fireplace twice a winter. She would hand me a $50 bill and say "just in case the birds come back" every single time. Anyone else have a customer who paid you to show up for no real reason for years?

Maybe it's just me but I figured out pretty quick with my Mrs. Gable type that she just liked the company. I started showing up with a small coffee for myself and just chatting with her for ten minutes before pretending to look at the chimney. She tipped me an extra twenty for the coffee after a few months and kept paying me monthly until she moved to Florida. Sometimes these folks just want a regular friendly face more than they need actual chimney sweeping.
