I finally stopped chasing the HOA rules after a $350 mistake

Last year I bought a house in the Cotswold area and thought I could paint my front door navy blue. The HOA sent me a letter saying it had to be an approved color. I spent 2 months going back and forth with them, paid $350 for a color consultant to match approved swatches, and ended up with a door that looks exactly like my neighbor's. Played right into their game. Anyone else just ignore the HOA and deal with the fine later?

Tbh I just painted my garage door bright yellow last summer and told the HOA to fine me if they wanted. They sent three letters and eventually a $200 fine that I paid just to shut them up. But you know what, for those 4 months I got to enjoy looking at my happy yellow door every single day. Ngl I'd probably do it again next year with a different crazy color, just to keep the game going. The satisfaction of picking your own stupid paint color is worth more than any fine they can throw at you.
