Warning: A customer's comment about my seam peaking made me switch up my glue method

I was finishing a big job in a Phoenix living room last month, a basic plush carpet. The homeowner, an older guy who used to be a trim carpenter, watched me work. When I was done, he pointed at a seam near the window and said, 'Son, that's gonna peak in a year. You're not letting the adhesive tack off enough.' I was using a fast-grab adhesive and just laying the carpet right down. He was right, I was rushing it. Now I spread the glue, wait a full 90 seconds for it to get tacky, then roll the seam. The difference is night and day, no more little ridges. Has anyone else had a client point out a flaw that actually improved your process?

Old painter taught me to wet my edge first.

Wet your edge first" sounds like advice from a painter who also fixes drywall. That's one way to make sure your brush doesn't stick, I guess. Not sure it applies to much else though.
