TIL thick padding can wreck a carpet job faster than you'd believe

Everyone pushes the plushest pad for customer comfort, but I learned the hard way. A year after install, the pile was flat and the homeowner was ready to sue. That extra cushion let the carpet fibers crush under normal foot traffic. Now I always recommend a firmer pad for any area that gets walked on a lot. It might not feel as soft, but it saves your reputation from callbacks.

Question if it's really that bad, maybe some people just walk too heavy.

Have you thought about how old places often have thin floors? I lived in a spot where normal steps sounded like stomps (no joke, it was crazy). The build was cheap, so every noise traveled easy. It wasn't about heavy walking, it was about poor sound blocking from the get-go.

Totally get that, some buildings are just built like drums. Lived in a place where you could hear a mouse sneeze two floors down. Makes you miss modern construction, right?
