Switched up my tack strip placement after a builder called me out
Honestly, I used to put my tack strips right up against the walls like I was taught 10 years ago. Then a builder I worked with on a job in Phoenix last month told me to leave a 1/4 inch gap so the carpet can tuck better without buckling. Tbh I thought he was wrong until he showed me a room he did where the edges laid flat as glass. I tried it on my last three installs and it's made a world of difference, especially on the thicker carpets. Anyone else get advice from a builder that completely changed how you do things?

You saved me YEARS of headaches" is exactly how I felt about my own situation too... I had a guy who did something similar with my foundation and I still think about it every time it rains. @ryanrodriguez you nailed it, that kind of work is so rare to find these days. Most people just throw things together quick and don't care about the long term. I ended up putting that builder's number in my phone under "don't lose this guy".
