Old trick I held onto finally paid off on a tricky seam
Been installing since the early 90s and I always used a rubber mallet to knock down seams after glueing. Young guys at the shop say it does nothing, just use a roller. But last week I had this high-pile berber in a living room in Denver, seams kept popping up with just the roller. Gave it a couple taps with the mallet and it laid flat as glass. Had to bring the mallet out on two other rooms that same week. How many of you still carry one of these?

Nah, I think a roller does the job fine if you use enough pressure.

Holy cow, a high-pile berber in Denver? Those things are a nightmare when the humidity shifts. I totally believe the mallet trick is the difference between a seam that stays down and one that needs a call back in three months. @barnes.jamie, I get where you're coming from with the roller, but some of these new glues just need that extra shock to bite into the carpet backing. A mallet is like a secret weapon you only pull out for the tough stuff, and then it saves your butt every time.
