I stopped assuming subfloors were dry and saved myself a mess
I used to lay carpet without checking for dampness. When one job molded under the padding, I started using a meter every time. No more wet carpet disasters since then.

Wait, you saw guys skip it on purpose? That's just asking for trouble!

Using a meter every time... that's smart. I've seen guys skip it and end up with warped floors a year later. Even a little dampness can mess up the adhesive, not just cause mold. It's worth the extra five minutes to scan the whole area.

Seriously, how do you even skip that step? I mean, what's the thought process there, just hoping for the best?
