TIL my favorite framing hammer is actually junk for trim work

Snapped the handle on my old Estwing last week while tapping a casing nail and realized it's WAY too heavy for finish stuff. I grabbed a cheap 7oz Vaughn for the rest of the job and honestly it felt like a cheat code, anyone else switch hammers between rough and trim work?

You ever have one of those moments where you realize you've been making things harder than they need to be for YEARS? I used to think a good hammer could do it all but now I totally get why you'd want a lighter touch for trim.

a good hammer could do it all" that hits hard dude. i was exactly the same way with my tools for years. thought more power meant better results every time. then i tried a dead blow mallet for some finish work and it was like a lightbulb went off. sometimes you just need the right tool for the job not the biggest one you got. it feels dumb looking back but at least we figured it out eventually right.
