Showerthought: My vacation snorkeling trip showed me why I hate office meetings.
I saw a fish trying to swim straight but getting pushed around by the current the whole time. It hit me that this is EXACTLY how I feel in those long, pointless team updates. What's a simple trick to make work meetings less of a waste?

Agree completely, that fish is all of us (lol). One thing that helped was asking "what's the agenda?" before any meeting even starts. If there isn't one, or it's just "updates," suggest a quick email instead. @jake_wright94, they feel pointless when there's no clear thing to decide or do next, you know? Making everyone stick to a listed topic stops that useless drifting.

Wait what? You actually ask for an agenda before every meeting? That's brave. My old boss would've given me such a look for even suggesting we skip an update call. He loved those pointless chats.
