Rant: A client meeting in a Denver coffee shop completely shifted how I handle project kickoffs.
They kept asking 'why' about every single task, and now I start every project with a 'why' document before any planning. Anyone else had a simple question totally change their process?

That's the only way to do it now. Letting people just start building stuff without the reason is a total waste of time. You end up with a perfect solution to the wrong problem. That client did you a huge favor, even if it felt annoying at the time. A one page doc that just says why we're doing this saves so many headaches later.

That one page doc idea is solid. What happens when you get pushback from a team that just wants to start coding right away. How do you get them to actually read it and buy in. I've seen those docs get ignored if the process feels like extra work.
