Paid $300 for a resume writing service and got back generic junk

I was job hunting last spring and got frustrated with my resume. So I paid this online service $300 thinking they would tweak it for my industry. They sent me back a template with my name swapped in and buzzwords like "synergy" that I never use. I had to rewrite the whole thing myself over a weekend. The worst part is they used a font that didn't even open right on my laptop. Has anyone else tried one of these services and gotten something equally useless?

Got a friend who did the EXACT same thing last year. She paid $250 for a "professional makeover" and they basically copy-pasted her old resume into a fancy template with zero changes to the actual content. They even left in a typo from her original that she specifically asked them to fix. She was so mad she called to complain and the lady on the phone was SUPER rude about it, basically told her "that's what you paid for." She ended up just using a free online tool and got a callback within two weeks. Total waste of money for something that's supposed to HELP you.

Ended up in a similar boat myself a few years back. Paid some guy $200 to "optimize" my LinkedIn and he literally just rewrote my job titles as questions like "Marketing Manager?" instead of "Marketing Manager." Felt like a scam. I ended up just copying my friend's layout and got more interviews in a month than I did in six with that "professional" version.
