Interviewed at a startup with a ping pong table in the break room, then watched the CEO yell at the janitor for 10 minutes straight.
After they offered me the job at $42k with 'unlimited PTO' I asked the HR lady if that included time off for therapy and she didn't laugh, has anyone else seen a culture clash that bad in person?

Wait, did the CEO yell at the janitor about the ping pong table or something else? I'm trying to picture the timeline here - did you walk in seeing a fun game room and then get hit with that scene right after? That's the kind of whiplash that makes you wonder if the table is just there to distract you from the fact they're paying way below market rate. How did the janitor even react, did they just stand there taking it or actually fight back?

Walked into an interview once where the CEO bragged about their "unlimited vacation" policy, then spent 20 minutes complaining that someone actually took two weeks off. @riverwhite your ping pong table story reminds me of that, like they slap a fun sticker over a rotting foundation. That janitor probably knew exactly what was up, those folks see everything. Hope you ran far from that offer, forty two grand for a startup with yelling problems is a joke.
