Went to a startup mixer in Kitchener last Tuesday and a founder told me to stop building before I talk to 10 people
I went to a startup mixer in Kitchener last Tuesday, mostly for the free pizza if I'm being honest. Got talking to a founder there who runs a small SaaS company, maybe 6 people. He said he spent 8 months building his first product before showing anyone, and it flopped completely. His rule now is simple: talk to 10 real people before writing a single line of code. So for those of you already running something, what's the first thing you do when you think you have a new idea?
Curious how he defined those 10 people though. Like did he mean potential customers in his exact niche, or just anyone who'd give him 20 minutes? Because I've seen founders talk to 10 friends who all said "yeah I'd use that" and then nobody actually paid for it. The hard part is finding people who'd put money down, not just nod along. Did he say anything about how he picked who to talk to?
