Took on a local partner in Vancouver, skipped the VC money, no regrets so far

Every founder I met kept pushing for a seed round, but 18 months ago I chose to bootstrap with a partner who knows BC's supply chain inside out. We put in $40k each and focused on selling to regional grocery chains instead of chasing Silicon Valley connections. The tradeoff is slower growth, sure, but we own 100% of the decisions and just hit break-even last quarter. Has anyone else turned down investors and gone with a hands-on local co-founder, and how did that play out long term?
