Appreciation post: my tiny fintech side project in Kitchener got its first paying customer after 14 months
Started building it in my basement in Kitchener back in March 2023, mostly on weekends after my day job. Launched quiet, no funding, no accelerator, just a landing page and a Stripe link. Got maybe 60 signups over the first year and almost everyone churned within a week. Then two weeks ago a bookkeeping shop in Guelph actually paid for the annual plan. $348. I screenshotted the Stripe email like it was a diploma. My partner asked why I was grinning at my phone during dinner.
Curious if other folks here have had a slow burn like this. Did your first real dollar come fast or did it take way longer than you expected?

14 months for $348 sounds painful but that Guelph bookkeeping shop is worth more than 60 tire kickers who churned. Most founders quit right before the first check clears, so sticking it out past a year of silence is the real win here. Slow burn beats no burn, and you actually got paid.
