My buddy in Bend told me to skip the footprint for my new 2-person tent

He said it was just extra weight and cost, but after a weekend at Crater Lake, the bottom of my tent had two small tears from sharp pine cones. I spent $45 on a patch kit and now I'm buying the footprint anyway. Anyone have a good fix for small floor rips that doesn't add much weight?

Oh man, the old "skip the footprint" advice. That's like someone telling you not to buy a case for your phone. Sure, it works until you drop it on concrete. Pine cones are brutal. I've used duct tape on a small rip before, the kind for gear repair. It's light and holds up okay for a while, but it's definitely a temporary fix.

Ugh, that "skip the footprint" tip is such a trap. Holly's right about duct tape being a short term fix, but it can get really sticky and messy over time. For a clean, light repair, try tenacious tape. You cut a patch, round the corners so it doesn't peel up, and it basically becomes part of the tent floor. It's saved a few of my older tents.
