Vent: everyone says hang your food bag 10 feet up, but a black bear at Lake George proved that wrong for me
Slept near the Adirondack town of Lake George last August, woke at 2am to a 250 pound bear sitting on a branch 12 feet up pulling my food bag toward him like it was nothing, so I now hang mine 15 feet up and 8 feet out from the trunk and just accept looking paranoid to every hiker who walks by.

Black bears can weigh 400 pounds and climb 30 feet easy, so that 10 foot rule was written by someone who never met one.
