Took me 2 hours to get my tent pegs out of frozen ground last weekend
I camped at Lake Tahoe and the temps dropped to 18F overnight - my cheap aluminum pegs were basically frozen into the soil and I had to boil water just to loosen them up. Anyone else switch to those screw-in pegs for cold weather trips?

Man seriously the whole world is designed for perfect conditions and then reality just laughs at you... I see this all the time with tools and stuff at work too. Like those plastic pushfittings for pex tubing that freeze up and crack vs the old metal ones that hold up fine. Or how about those little plastic clips on car interiors that snap the second you touch them in cold weather. It's like nobody actually tests this stuff in the conditions people really use it in. Screw in pegs sound smart though I bet they beat the hell out of boiling water at the campsite.

Honestly 18F is just life saying no one thought about how the ground works when they made camping gear.
