Why does nobody talk about the guy at the Columbus camera show who told me to stop buying broken bodies
Last Saturday at the Columbus camera show, a vendor named Ray watched me hand over $60 for a dead Canon AE-1 and just shook his head. He said he sees guys like me every month buying junk bodies to fix and flip, and half of them end up with a drawer full of parts cameras that never sell. He pulled out a notebook with 23 names in it, all hobby repairers who quit in the last two years, mostly because they burned out on fixing the same shutter issues over and over. Is it just me, or is hunting broken bodies a trap for newer repairers who want to get into this trade?
