Rant: a 1987 repair log showed me I've been chasing the wrong problem on stuck focus rings
I was digging through a box of old paperwork a retiring tech in Phoenix gave me, and one of his logs from 1987 listed a stuck focus ring fix as a $4 part and 20 minutes of work. I had been soaking those rings in solvent and charging people for an hour, thinking the grease was the issue. Turns out the real culprit on that model is a tiny bent guide pin that costs almost nothing, and he wrote it down plain as day 38 years ago. I felt like a fool for not asking sooner, but now I want to know what else is hiding in these old notebooks. Has anyone else found a simple fix in a dead guy's handwriting that made them rethink their whole method?
