Decided between Helicoil and a used helicoil gun for an old Pentax body mount repair

Honestly, I’d be more worried about how tight the threads need to be on a Pentax mount - those old bodies have a really specific tolerance that can throw off infinity focus if you’re off by a hair. A used helicoil gun might save you money but if it’s been dropped or worn down, you’re gambling with alignment.

Yeah I've been down that exact road with a Spotmatic and honestly a new helicoil kit is worth every penny over a used one. That alignment is brutal to fix if you're off, ask me how I know (scratched up a perfectly good adapter plate once). The Pentax mount tolerances are no joke.
