My crimper died mid-job on a 48 port panel in Mesquite and I finished with a pair of lineman pliers
Lost my ratchet crimper about halfway through a 48 port Cat6 panel in Mesquite on Tuesday, the jaws just stopped locking up all the way. I had 22 terminations left and no backup in the van, so I did them by hand with lineman pliers and a lot of praying. Three of them ended up loose enough that the tester flagged them when I ran cert, and I had to redo those with the pliers again. Now I'm wondering if the crimper was junk or if I was pushing it too hard on the 23 gauge wire. What do you all keep as a spare crimper in the truck, and do the cheap ones last any length of time for you?
