I finally tried a fish tape with a built-in light
Got sent to run cable in a dark crawlspace over in Maplewood last week, and my regular fish tape was useless down there. Borrowed a Klein Tools one with a little LED on the end, and I pulled three Cat6 runs in half the time. Anyone else find these gimmicky or is it actually worth buying one?

Oh man, I actually just read a review on this exact thing from some sparky forum and people were split down the middle on it. I tend to agree with the guys who said it's not a gimmick at all, especially in tight spots like you dealt with. The LED on the end saves you from having to hold a flashlight in your mouth or waste time shining a headlamp around. Honestly, for the price difference over a standard tape, it seems like a no brainer if you do any attic or crawlspace work. Some folks complained about the battery dying fast, but Klein's usually pretty solid with battery life on their tools. I'd say go for it, worst case you just leave the light off and use it as a normal fish tape.

Just grab a dimmer switch model next time if battery life bugs you, they last way longer.
