A 20 year guy in Charlotte said my drip loops were backwards and I argued for 10 minutes before I got it
So about 6 months ago I was on a two man job in Charlotte, running a new drop to a second floor unit, and the older installer I was paired with watched me finish the entry point and just said 'your drip loop is upside down, water's gonna ride that line right into the wall.' I told him I'd been doing it that way for 3 years and never had a callback, and we went back and forth for a solid 10 minutes right there on the ladder. He didn't get mad, he just pulled up a photo on his phone of a wall he had to open up in 2019 where the same setup rotted the sill plate and cost the homeowner about $1,800 in drywall and trim work. That number stuck with me more than anything he said. The next week I went back and rechecked every recent job I could remember, and sure enough 2 of them had water staining starting at the penetration. Now I make the loop dip below the entry hole every single time, even when the customer walks out and says it looks weird. Cost me nothing but a few extra seconds. Curious if anybody else got corrected on something small like this that turned out to be a real problem later.
