I finally figured out why my $180 boots kept falling apart every winter
I used to buy cheap boots every year and just accept they would leak by February. Then a cobbler in Boise looked at the pair I was about to toss and said the problem was never the boots, it was that I never let them dry out between wears. I started rotating two pairs and using cedar shoe trees, and my current pair of Danners has gone four winters without a single crack. If you only own one pair of work boots, are you actually rotating them or just hoping for the best?

Man, this hits home. My buddy Dave wore the same pair of Red Wings every single day for two years and could not figure out why the leather was cracking and the seams were pulling apart. His wife finally made him buy a second pair and now he swaps them out every other day. Six months later the old pair still looks rough but it stopped getting worse, and he says his feet do not get soaked from sweat anymore either. The kicker is he spent way less on that second pair than he did replacing boots every year. Two pairs and some shoe trees cost less than one new pair every winter when you add it up.
