My 3 year old travel coffee press finally got wrecked because the algorithm thought I needed a new one

Last week, YouTube kept showing me those manual espresso makers for like $80. I shrugged it off but clicked one ad out of boredom. Three days later, my old press jammed up and the gasket tore, and I had no backup for my morning commute in Portland. Did the algorithm just predict my gear failure or am I giving it too much credit?

I read something about how algorithms can learn your routine patterns and predict when stuff's about to break. Like they know your coffee press is getting old based on how often you search for replacement parts or watch coffee gear videos. That's kinda creepy but also... maybe we should start blaming the algorithm more often for our bad luck?
