: That flier for a missing cat that's been up for eight months

Saw a beat up 'lost cat' paper stapled to a telephone pole on my street and realized it's been there since last May. At what point does hope turn into a weird memorial that nobody wants to take down?

That "light spot on the paper" reminds me of a garage sale sign that was still up five years after the sale ended.

Totally get what you're saying. Start noticing the edges curling up and the tape getting all yellow and kinda see-through. It stops being a "please help find my cat" and turns into this sad little landmark that everyone walks past but nobody wants to be the one to take down, like doing that would mean you're giving up on the cat. I saw one for a dog that had been up for over a year and the photo was so faded you could barely make out the shape anymore, basically just a light spot on the paper. Feels like at some point it crosses over into a weird community memorial, like that chunk of sidewalk just belongs to that missing pet now.
