Question about a handwritten ad for vinyl record cleaning I saw on a laundromat wall.

It got me thinking how we used to care for physical media. Now most music is digital, but some people still cherish the old stuff. The ad had a drawing of a record player on it.

That ad on the laundromat wall is a cool find. From my experience, a basic homemade cleaner with distilled water and a drop of dish soap can do wonders. Just use a soft microfiber cloth and wipe in circles, never along the grooves. Your mileage may vary, but this method has kept my old records sounding clear for years. It's a bit of work compared to streaming, but the ritual feels worth it for the music. There's something special about maintaining physical media that digital files just don't have.

That point about the ritual really hits home. It turns cleaning from a chore into a way to actually connect with the music before you even play it. There's a deeper appreciation that happens when you handle the artwork and feel the weight of the record in your hands. Streaming is convenient, but it doesn't ask for your attention in the same way at all. You end up caring for the music more because you've put real time into maintaining it.

My dad's old Zeppelin records taught me that same thing.
