One comment on my community board post totally changed how I write flyers

Some guy named Dave scribbled "nobody reads that much text" on my garage sale poster and circled where I wrote 12 bullet points. Now I keep it to 3 lines max and actually put big bold prices, my phone started ringing within an hour.

Started keeping mine to 5 lines max and @perez.christopher I promise the same people still show up even with less text. I used to list every single category of item but now I just say "household stuff, electronics, kids toys" and put the big ticket prices like "$50 bike" or "$30 TV stand" in bold right at the top. Honestly the less you write the more they actually read the important parts.

24 years of doing my own yard sale flyers and I still put 8 or 10 bullet points on them. I cover the basics - what kind of stuff, the street name, the date and time. People stop anyway because they see a table full of junk from the road. I think Dave might have just been having a bad day and wanted to be helpful in his own way.
